    Renata Liwska
    April 7-30, 2005

UPPERCASE presents the work of Renata Liwska. Educated at the School of Fine Arts in Warsaw and the Alberta College of Art & Design in Calgary, Renata's work revolves around her many sketchbooks. At any one time, she has a half dozen active sketchbooks filled with ideas, personal explorations, and illustration development. For finished illustrations, the sketchbook pages are scanned and coloured digitally.

The exhibition highlights work from the book "Nikolai the Only Bear" written by Barbara Joosse and published by Philomel Books. The book tells the story of Nikolai, the only bear in a Russian orphanage. In creating the illustrations for this book, Renata drew upon her own memories of childhood. Also on display are Renata's charming soft sculpture bears.
