Don Post, Kinetic Sculptures
Other people’s junk is another man’s treasure! Anyone who knows Don will come to him first before tossing out any electronic equipment. To one man it is a dead photocopier, to Don it is a delightful warehouse of various gears, belts, pullies and chains.

A Mother’s Love { two birds with nest } $9,800
Don was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba and moved with his family to Calgary, Alberta as a very young boy. He lives in Calgary with his wife, Frankie, and their teenage daughters, Sammie and Kira.
Don has been a computer technician for almost 20 years, but never ceases to amaze his friends and family with his diverse talents — some of which are drumming, carpentry, auto mechanic, home-repair, electrician, plumbing.
Don loves to play and his art is “building toys” to him! He grew up mechanically-minded — his big brother would take apart his toys and leave them for Don to put back together. He also sketched a lot as he grew up. His work was concentrated mostly on creating exotic, fast muscle cars with turbo engines and powerful artillery.
Don begins each new creation by asking his Creator “what are we going to build today?” Ideas immediately come to mind that both fascinate and motivate him to begin. The unique sculptures are created mainly out of recycled electronics, from old stereos, computers, VCR’s, photocopiers and even car parts. From the “mind-of-Don” comes imaginative pieces where some will glide and soar while others will methodically bob up and down. Several pieces have marble sized metal balls that roll down intricate tracks and even climb elevators.
The use of creative lighting together with each piece’s disciplined movement will both inspire and mesmerize the spectator. Don’s love for his late mother inspired the gentle folding and spreading of the wings of a bird who dips towards her baby’s face. His losses have pushed Don deep into his creations to cope where he broke through to a new level of creativity — from abstract to an impressionistic-surreal world.
Don's pieces are on display at UPPERCASE throughout the summer.
